
The School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (HTCA) recently received its Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Grand Award in the Education & Training category for its public- private partnership in education and training at the听Tourism Academy at Community College, Langkawi.听 The award was presented at the recent PATA Awards Ceremony at its meeting in Bangalore (India) and received by the Dean of HTCA, Mr.听Neethiahnanthan Ari Ragavan, and the Ministry of Education鈥檚 Director General of Department of Community College Education Dato鈥 Amir Md Noor. 鈥淭his recognition is well deserved. Taylor鈥檚 University has been actively engaged in the Government鈥檚 National Economic Transformation Plan and their team has been successfully implementing remarkable tourism and hospitality projects locally and internationally,鈥 said Dato鈥 Amir.听This initiative is supporting the vision of the government to make Langkawi among the Top 10 tourism island destination with qualified manpower to support and complement the service sectors.听

The PATA Gold Awards recognises exceptional achievement in a variety of endeavours, acknowledging and rewarding the very best that the Asia Pacific鈥檚 travel industry has to offer. The winning projects set industry standards for excellence and innovation, serving as examples for others to follow. This year, PATA received a total of 269 entries from 83 travel and tourism organisations and individuals, the highest number since 2007. This year鈥檚 awards recognises the achievements of 29 separate organisations and individuals including Accor Asia-Pacific, Australia's Cox and Kings Ltd, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Sri Lanka's Jetwing Hotels Ltd, and also Tourism Malaysia for its听听promotion.
